Treasure Hunt Clues by Age: 5 to 12

The best clues are challenging enough to feel rewarding and clear enough to keep the adventure moving. Ages 5–6: use short sentences, familiar objects and simple rhymes. A grown-up can read aloud. Ages 7–9: try simple riddles, patterns and clues that ask children to notice an object’s purpose. Ages 10–12: add multi-step reasoning, wordplay or simple codes. Test each clue to make sure its answer is unambiguous. Whatever the age, choose safe hiding places and offer a hint when needed. Children develop at different rates, so adapt the difficulty to your group.
